Les Miserables: Le(a)s Miserables

I saw Les Miserables two months before its last curtain call in 2003.  So when it was first announced that the hit musical would be returning to the Great White Way, I was very excited and vowed to see it again.   The less-than-favorable critics reviews and cold and chilling audience reception afforded the Miz-cast Daphne Rubin-Vega dampened my enthusiasm.

I couldn’t contain my excitement when, while perusing broadway.com, I learned that Lea Salonga of Miss Saigon fame had officially joined the musical revival not to reprise the role of Eponine but to replace Daphne as Fantine.

Playbill.com reports:

“…Due to strong box-office and enthusiastic audiences, Les Miz recently announced an extension through at least the summer of 2007, and Lea Salonga will stay with the production through the entire period.

The heat is on Broadway indeed.

Time to reserve that ticket.  Front row center? No, spittles.  Maybe 6th row, center, orchestra.  There!

Oh, I hate to have to say this, but I join the entire  theater-loving public in saying that with a Laurence Olivier- and Tony-award-winning actress taking over your part, Daphne, we won’t be missing your prematurely rigor mortis-ed stint.

  1. i will see you at broadway…. im so excited to see lea salonga too!

  2. here’s my lea experience. I went to a christmas party a few years ago. A lot of the Miss Saigon cast was there…including Lea. They fired up the karaoke, and guess who was a karaoke hog? Even worse, guess who karaoke’d to her own song from Aladin? Yeah someone’s kind of into herself, and this time it’s not me.

  3. Al: There are 8 million plus plus people in NYC. I’m sure I’ll find you ;) I can hold a placard bearing my name and stand in the middle of Broadway, or pay out of my retirement fund for a 1 sec spot on one of those electronic billboards.

Vanguard: She is famous as she is infamous. You’d be, too, if you had a tony piece of statuette on your shoulder.

  4. [...] Le(a)s Miserables Tickets have been purchased.  Can’t wait for March 6th.  Meanwhile:  [...]
